Abstract: | Reviews successes and research legacy of Alaska Siberia Medical Research Program, which grew out of urgent need to understand apparently rapidly growing health problems in Native community. Objectives of programme were: to develop self-sustaining infrastructure for biomedical research by gaining support from Alaska Natives, University of Alaska, national political leaders, National Institutes of Health, and Russian Academy of Medical Science; to identify researchers committed to helping Alaska Natives; and to carry out necessary research to form foundations for future research. |
