Abstract: | Examines fossil midge (Diptera: Chironomidae) assemblages from Lake Várddoaijávri, northern Finland to track Holocene effective moisture availability. Application of midge-based water-depth calibration model showed that Early Holocene was characterised by high water level compared with Holocene average, but inferred values decreased at c. 8000 cal. a. BP, but increased again towards c. 4000 cal. a. BP. Overall, reconstruction shows close correspondence in its trends with previous lake-level records in region. |
