Record #197487:
A polar perspective / Michael Aaron Dennis.
Title: | A polar perspective / Michael Aaron Dennis. |
Author(s): | Dennis, Michael Aaron. |
Date: | 2010. |
Publisher: | New York: Palgrave Macmillan |
In: | Globalizing polar science : reconsidering the International Polar and Geophysical Years. (2010.), |
Abstract: | Considers emblems and logos that International Polar Year (IPY) 2007-08 and International Geophysical Year (IGY) 1957-58 selected as representative of their aims and objectives. Identifies imagery of Cold War's binary logic in IGY emblem. Notes similarities between design of IPY's symbol and that of current space shuttle missions, and sees "abstract human" as indication that poles are now central to humanity's attempt to understand its own effect on planet's climate. |
