| Abstract: | Studies role of glaciers in relief formation, using recent data on development of natural environment of polar regions. In examining hitherto little-studied glaciers, finds that passive glaciers were widespread during last ice ages and may present alternative to active ice sheets as main force in glacial theory. Considers characteristics of climatic fluctuations in polar regions during last millennia and centuries, when passive glaciers have continued actively growing and disappearing. |
