Title: | Records of white-rumped sandpiper (Calidris fuscicollis) on the South Shetland Islands / Malgorzata Korczak-Abshire, Piotr J. Angiel, Grzegorz Wierzbicki. |
Author(s): | Korczak-Abshire, Malgorzata. Angiel, Piotr J. Wierzbicki, Grzegorz. |
Date: | 2011. |
In: | Polar Record. (2011.), Vol. 47(242) (2011) |
Abstract: | Monitoring of non-breeding birds in vicinity of Arctowski station on King George Island over past 30 years indicates that white-rumped sandpiper Calidris fuscicollis occurs as vagrant in South Shetlands area more frequently than was previously thought. Discusses effect of higher air temperature resulting from predominantly northern winds, which bring relatively warm and moist air resulting in more open habitats and better food resources, allowing birds to persist or survive. |
