Abstract: Addresses local concerns regarding most recent management decisions and related scientific population estimates for western Hudson Bay polar bear (Ursus maritimus) population. Polar bears (nanuit in Inuktitut) are highly respected and culturally valued animal to Inuit of Nunavut. Through hunting, Inuit have observed polar bear behaviour closely, and respect bears' adaptation to Arctic environment. Over millennia of hunting, Inuit knowledge of polar bear ecology and behaviour has accumulated and been communicated from generation to generation through oral tradition.
