Abstract: | Describes lifestyle of Saami of southern Lapland 50-70 years ago in relation to present-day Saami and non-Saami populations in order to provide basis for future studies of culturally-related determinants of health and illness. Finds that, in 1930s-50s, fatty fish appears to have been more important than reindeer meat for Saami of southern Lapland; also that it is still consumed more frequently by reindeer-herding Saami than by non-reindeer-herding Saami and non-Saami. |
