Abstract: | Examines emergence of Arctic on world political arena and critical challenges this poses. Considers consequences for Nordic region and for Finland in particular. Considers areas in which Finland could become active: development of sufficient expertise in Arctic ecological and related technological domains; development of diplomatic networks that allow it to secure vital interests in Arctic "soft power" game; and development of "hard power" capabilities in case conflicts and confrontations emerge along its northern borders. |
