Abstract: Account of how house sparrow Passer domesticus arrived in Falkland Islands in 1919 in rigging of steamers from Uruguay, and early attempts to eradicate them led by Assistant Government Naturalist Arthur Bennett. Includes discussion of sparrows' adaptation to weather and lack of trees, and ways in which changes in Falkland Islands help sparrows to survive there while their populations in other parts of World are in decline.
