| Abstract: | Deals with processes of recent sedimentation within major depression of Arctic continental margin - St. Anna Trough. Based on detailed studies of surface layer of bottom sediments (0-3 cm), assesses dynamics of sedimentation and examines transformation of grain-size structure of sediment in course of its migration. Distinguishes four dynamic zones: zones of abrasion, transit, accumulation, and transit/accumulation. Determines sources of recent sedimentary matter. These dynamic zones are seen as important for forecasting sites of possible pollutant accumulation, which is relevant to current exploration of hydrocarbon fields discovered on West Arctic shelf of Russia. |
