Sea-ice variation along the Okhotsk coast of Hokkaido and its relation to climate change / Shuhei Takahashi, Tomofumi Kosugi.

Title: Sea-ice variation along the Okhotsk coast of Hokkaido and its relation to climate change / Shuhei Takahashi, Tomofumi Kosugi.
Author(s): Takahashi, Shuhei.
Kosugi, Tomofumi.
Date: 2011.
Publisher: Mombetsu: Okhotsk Sea and Cold Ocean Association
In: Mombetsu-2011 Symposium : proceedings of the 26th International Symposium on Okhotsk Sea and Sea Ice, 20-25 February 2011 Mombetsu, Hokkaido, Japan. (2011.),
Abstract: Estimates seasonal time period of sea-ice covering in Sea of Okhotsk in region immediately north of Hokkaido from daily sea-ice concentration maps produced by Japanese Coast Guard. Results show that time period is generally well represented by duration of seasonal ice cover in region of Utoro (Shiretoko Peninsula). Comparisons of sea-ice duration with meteorological records from sites along northern coast of Hokkaido suggests that winter temperature increases by between 2-4°C could mean that sea ice would not appear on coast of Hokkaido at any time during year.
