Abstract: Reports establishment of seven sea areas and three temporal segmentations for analysis of Northenr Sea Route, and examination of sea ice cover in eech area using data obtained from SMMR and SSM/1. Results indicate that sea ice decreased from first phase to third phase. Discussion focuses on sea ice decrease in western Laptev Sea, north-eastern Kara Sea and eastern East Siberian Sea, critical areas for navigation.
