Abstract: Investigates sea ice-ocean circulation system of northern East/Japan Sea using ice-coupled Ocean General Circulation Model (OGCM) which includes tidal forcings. Model appears to underestimate sea ice extents. Sea ice extents are reduced when tides are included. Tidal stirring is believed to enhance heat and salt transfer to upper layer and thereby reduce sea ice extents.
