Incorporation of nitrogen compounds into sea ice from atmospheric pollution / Daiki Nomura, and 4 others.

Title: Incorporation of nitrogen compounds into sea ice from atmospheric pollution / Daiki Nomura, and 4 others.
Author(s): Nomura, Daiki.
Date: 2011.
Publisher: Mombetsu: Okhotsk Sea and Cold Ocean Association
In: Mombetsu-2011 Symposium : proceedings of the 26th International Symposium on Okhotsk Sea and Sea Ice, 20-25 February 2011 Mombetsu, Hokkaido, Japan. (2011.),
Abstract: Analyzes temporal measurements of temperature, salinity, oxygen isotope ratio (δ¹⁸O) and nutrient concentrations at Saroma-ko Lagoon, souther Sea of Okhotsk, taken in February-March 2008 to examine processes by which nitrogen compounds from atmosphere were incorporated via snowfall into sea ice. High concentrations of NO₃ + NO₂ and NH₄ observed in snow and snow-ice throuighout study period were probably due to proximity of study site, in northenrn Japan, to east coast of Asian continent. Pollutants containing high NO₃ and NH₄ concentrations are transported from east Asia and deposited in snowfall over sea ice in southern part of Sea of Okhotsk.
