Contaminant levels, trends and effects in the biological environment / Aaron T. Fisk, Karen Hobbs, Derek C.G. Muir, eds.
Title: | Contaminant levels, trends and effects in the biological environment / Aaron T. Fisk, Karen Hobbs, Derek C.G. Muir, eds. |
Author(s): | Fisk, Aaron T., Hobbs, Karen, Muir, Derek C. G., |
Date: | 2003. |
Publisher: | Ottawa: Canada. Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development |
Abstract: | Part of Canadian Arctic Contaminants Assessment Report (CACAR-II) on second phase of Northern Contaminants Program (NCP). Programme (NCP-I) was established in 1991 in response to concerns about levels of human exposure to industrial contaminants in fish and wildlife species important to traditional diets of northern indigenous people. Early studies indicated high levels of persistent pollution. Second phase (NCP-II) focused on impacts and risks to human health from current (i.e. 1998-2003) levels of contamination in key Arctic food species. CACAR-II documents NCP-II results in Highlight report and four technical reports. This technical report concentrates on impact of pollution, particularly of mercury, on biological environment. |
