Author(s): Pufall, Erica L.
Date: 2011.
In: Arctic. (2011.), Vol. 64(2) (2011)
Abstract: Describes community-based participatory research project with aim of improving understanding of relative safety of country foods and role they play in contemporary Inuit society. Study is based on data on Inuit perceptions of role, importance and safety of foods collected during series of interviews with focus groups and key informants. Despite extremely positive views expressed about country foods and connections they provide to land, community and past, participants had major concerns about human expansion in North, mining operations, chemical contamination, and impact of these issues on animals and food harvested from animals.
