Record #195562:

Paleoeskimo demography and Holocene sea-level history, Gulf of Boothia, Arctic Canada / Arthur S. Dyke, James M. Savelle, Donald S. Johnson.

Title: Paleoeskimo demography and Holocene sea-level history, Gulf of Boothia, Arctic Canada / Arthur S. Dyke, James M. Savelle, Donald S. Johnson.
Author(s): Dyke, Arthur S.
Savelle, James M.
Johnson, Donald S.
Date: 2011.
In: Arctic. (2011.), Vol. 64(2) (2011)
Abstract: Describes surveys in six areas along Gulf of Boothia that yielded large collections of radiocarbon samples from raised beaches from which six new relative sea-level curves and information on Holocene bowhead whale (Balaena mysticetus) ranges emerged. Also documents 482 Palaeoeskimo dwelling features spanning approx. 3,500 years (4200-800 ¹⁴C years BP). On basis of feature elevation, corroborated by radiocarbon dates, Palaeoeskimo occupation appears to have passed through series of "boom-and-bust" cycles. Currently available palaeoclimatic data do not indicate any regionally consistent relationship between climate changes and demographic cycles.
