Record #195553:
Bryophytes as heavy metal biomonitors in the Canadian High Arctic / David Wilkie, Catherine la Farge.
Title: | Bryophytes as heavy metal biomonitors in the Canadian High Arctic / David Wilkie, Catherine la Farge. |
Author(s): | Wilkie, David. Farge, Catherine la. |
Date: | 2011. |
In: | Arctic, Antarctic, and Alpine Research. (2011.), Vol. 43(2) (2011) |
Abstract: | Investigates temporal, spatial and habitat gradients of concentrations and enrichment factors of As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Zn and Pb (and its stable isotopes) in mosses from Ellesmere Island. Observes anthropogenically influenced concentrations of As, Cr, Cu, Ni and Zn in samples collected in 2007. Finds that concentrations of heavy metals in hydric taxa are greater than those observed in xeric or mesic taxa, though insignificant. Pb-isotope ratios are radiogenic and characteristic of High Arctic islands. |
