Effects of simulated grazing in ungrazed wet sedge tundra in the High Arctic / Tammy L. Elliott, Gregory H.R. Henry.
Title: | Effects of simulated grazing in ungrazed wet sedge tundra in the High Arctic / Tammy L. Elliott, Gregory H.R. Henry. |
Author(s): | Elliott, Tammy L. Henry, Gregory H. R. |
Date: | 2011. |
In: | Arctic, Antarctic, and Alpine Research. (2011.), Vol. 43(2) (2011) |
Abstract: | Reports results of simulated grazing experiment in two wet sedge meadows at site on Ellesmere Island that has not been affected by grazing. Over two summers, vegetation was clipped at four different frequencies and litter removed to assess effects of above-ground net primary production, availability of soil nitrogen, shoot concentrations of carbon and nitrogen, and soil temperature and moisture regimes. Above-ground net primary production decreased after clipping, regardless of frequency. Litter removal resulted in slightly increased soil moisture, but had no effect on above-ground primary production. |
