Record #195397:

Preface / Archibald Geikie.

Title: Preface / Archibald Geikie.
Author(s): Geikie, Archibald.
Date: 1913.
Publisher: London: Royal Society
In: National Antarctic Expedition 1901-1904 : Meteorology. Part II: Comprising daily synchronous charts, 1st October, 1901, to 31st March, 1904. (1913.),
Abstract: Discusses various objections made by Scott to some statements contained in Meteorology. Part I, published in 1908, some of which in his opinion showed lack of appreciation of practical difficulties of observations in high latitudes, while others involved errors he wished to correct. These regard mainly direction of wind and whether this was "true" or made by compass; insertion of column giving supposed positions of sledge parties at noon; and problems associated with defining slope of barrier surface towards sea when sledging. Includes comment on death of Scott and his companions during 1910-13 Terra Nova expedition.
