Abstract: Examines abandonment of Newfoundland around 1170 cal BP by once-thriving Palaeo-Eskimo populations and subsequent expansion of resident Recent Indian groups. Connects processes to each other, to abandonment of strategic Dorset site in north-western Newfoundland, and to climate warming demonstrated for this region beginning at 1400 cal BP and peaking at 1100 cal BP.
