Record #195248:
Glaciers / Per Holmlund.
Title: | Glaciers / Per Holmlund. |
Author(s): | Holmlund, Per. |
Date: | 2005. |
Publisher: | Oxford: Oxford University Press |
In: | Physical Geography of Fennoscandia. (2005.), |
Abstract: | Some 1900 glaciers exist in Scandinavia (84% in Norway), covering around 2,900 km². Discusses variations in climate across region, particularly strong east-west gradient, and contrasting conditions in which glaciers exist, from maritime glaciers in west sustained by high precipitation, to glaciers east of mountain divide fed mainly by wind-blown snow. Discusses long term observation of glacier mass balance and fluctuation, particularly across three east-west transects ranging from 61-62°N to about 68°N. Describes thermal distribution in Scandinavian glaciers, and how glaciers in different areas respond differently to climate changes. |
