Investigations of the fluctuations of surge-type glaciers in the Pamirs based on observations from space / V.M. Kotlyakov, G.B. Osipova, D.G. Tsvetkov.

Title: Investigations of the fluctuations of surge-type glaciers in the Pamirs based on observations from space / V.M. Kotlyakov, G.B. Osipova, D.G. Tsvetkov.
Author(s): Kotlyakov, V. M.
Osipova, G. B.
Tsvetkov, D. G.
Date: 2010.
In: U.S. Geological Survey professional paper. (2010.), Vol. 1386-F (2010)
Abstract: Presents inventory of surging glaciers of Pamirs, based on stereoscopic interpretation of space photographs from 1972-1991. Divides 630 glaciers into three groups based on degree of confidence in surging behaviour and presents statistics for 20 largest surges. Investigates fluctuation regime of large compound glaciers, documenting surge of Oktyabr'skiye glacier, and interactions through surge cycles of Bivachniy and MGU glaciers, and Gando and Dorofeyeva glaciers. Describes state of surging glaciers Ledniki Medvezhiy and Geograficheskogo Obshchestva. Investigates fluctuations of 160 "normal" non-surging glaciers in Eastern Pamirs between 1972 and 2001, based on space imagery and photography (all either retreated or were stationary over period)
