Record #195028:

A response to Bradwell's commentary on Recent Statistical Studies in Lichenometry, by Vincent Jomelli [and 5 others] / Vincent Jomelli, and 5 others.

Title: A response to Bradwell's commentary on Recent Statistical Studies in Lichenometry, by Vincent Jomelli [and 5 others] / Vincent Jomelli, and 5 others.
Author(s): Jomelli, Vincent.
Date: 2010.
In: Geografiska Annaler. Series A. Physical Geography. (2010.), Vol. 92(4) (2010)
Abstract: Responds to Bradwell's judgement of author's Generalized Extreme Value (GEV) approach to lichenometric dating in geomorphology. Bradwell judged GEV "too unconventional..., overly complex, and incapable of bringing any added value to the field of lichenometry" and questioned whether environmental variability and in-built uncertainly prevented such a "geobotanical" dating technique from ever being scientifically valid. Analyzing lichenometric dating as two-step process, in which regression analysis relates lichen measurements to age of surface on which they grow, and inverse problem is solved to establish age from lichen measurement and estimate uncertainty involved. Author's defend their approach and stress assumptions made in traditional analysis recommended by Bradwell.
