| Abstract: | Compares passive microwave snow water equivalent (SWE) data over winter seasons 2004-09 with independent results from snow hydrology model. Model uses temperature index method, with precipitation and interpolated temperature data as input. Calibrates model with high-resolution images of snow covered area and validates against simulated runoff to Kajakai reservoir measurements at basin outlet. Initialising model with passive microwave SWE data improved results for years of low input precipitation. Assesses data quality and snow and hydrologic model results, concluding that passive microwave SWE has potential to provide valuable water resource information in data-scarce region. |
