Record #195019:

[Features of Northwest Passage sea ice's distribution and variation under Arctic rapidly warming condition] / Jie Su, and 3 others.

Title: [Features of Northwest Passage sea ice's distribution and variation under Arctic rapidly warming condition] / Jie Su, and 3 others.
Author(s): Su, Jie.
Date: 2010.
Language: Chinese.
In: Chinese Journal of Polar Research. (2010.), Vol. 22(2) (2010)
Abstract: Examines variation of sea ice concentration in area of Northwest Passage during period 2002-08, using AMSR-E sea ice concentration product with 6.25 km resolution. Analyzes melt, ice-free and slight-ice-cover periods, ice-free and slight-ice days, and sea ice variation and distribution in main ice choke points. South route is easier to navigate than north, with ice often beginning to melt near to where polynya and Circumpolar Flaw Lead occur. Period for which choke points exist is decreasing. Frequencies of ice-free and slight-ice days are increasing. Discusses spatial distribution and mechanics of sea ice in region. Establishes index of ice-free or slight-ice days along whole route to estimate navigability.
