| Abstract: | Presents varve chronology from Lake Lögurinn, eastern Iceland, covering period AD 1262-2005 and examines links to climate and glacial processes of Eyjabakkajökull, an outlet glacier of Vatnajökull. Interprets laminate sediments as varves, based on visual observations, high-resolution images, X-ray density and geochemical properties determined from X-radiography and X-ray fluorescence scanning. Verifies chronology using ¹³⁷Cs analysis and eight historical tephras. Compares varve properties (winter and summer lamina thickness) with meteorological records and glaciological observations and infers both past climatic conditions (winter precipitation) and past glacial processes (surges) |
