Record #195009:

Depositional processes within the frontal ice-cored moraine system, Ragnar Glacier, Svalbard / Marek Ewertowski, and 3 others.

Title: Depositional processes within the frontal ice-cored moraine system, Ragnar Glacier, Svalbard / Marek Ewertowski, and 3 others.
Author(s): Ewertowski, Marek.
Date: 2010.
In: Quaestiones Geographicae. (2010.), Vol. 29(1) (2010)
Abstract: Reconstructs intensity and variability of depositional processes for High-Arctic glacier, from early stage of frontal ice-cored moraine creation to present. Interprets processes based on sediments observed within outcrops and on surface near Petuniabukta, northern Billefjorden. Divides marginal zone of glacier into: ice surface, proglacial lake, lateral moraine, and frontal moraine complex, with latter subdivided into outer moraine ridge, culmination moraine ridge, and inner moraine plateau (notes large variability of lithofacies and depositional processes here). Identifies most important processes as debris flow, glaciofluvial and glaciolacustrine sedimentation, Aeolian activity and down- and back-wasting. Process intensities have varied over time. Frontal ice-cored moraine complex is relatively stable at present, except where affected by river/streams.
