Record #194971:

The power of multiple perspectives: behind the scenes of the Siku-Inuit-Hila project / Henry P. Huntington, Shari Gearheard, Lene Kielsen Holm.

Title: The power of multiple perspectives: behind the scenes of the Siku-Inuit-Hila project / Henry P. Huntington, Shari Gearheard, Lene Kielsen Holm.
Author(s): Huntington, Henry P.
Gearheard, Shari.
Holm, Lene Kielsen.
Date: 2010.
Publisher: Dordrecht: Springer
In: SIKU : knowing our ice : documenting Inuit sea-ice knowledge and use. (2010.),
Abstract: Focuses on partnership component of Siku-Inuit-Hila (Sea ice-people-weather) project, linking Inuit and scientific knowledge and perhaps representing first undertaking by Inuit of comparative environmental research in formal structure. Describes how exchanges of community knowledge between local research team members were complemented by quantitative sea ice measurements from specially designed local monitoring stations and by regular sea ice expert group meetings in each community. Illustrates how collaborative approach yields new insights into sea ice processes, changes and impacts at local and regional scales (e.g., recognition of importance of currents in sea ice dynamics). Emphasizes enjoyable nature of community exchanges.
