| Abstract: | Discusses Canada's status as non-consultative member of Antarctic Treaty and full member of Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR), and evaluates Canada's access to information about and influence on Antarctic policy making. Includes notes on Canada's non-signing of 1947 Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance with particular reference to overlapping Argentine, British and Chilean territorial claims; attempts at formulating Canadian policy on Antarctica in late 1940s; and Canada's role as mediator in Antarctic affairs, particularly negotiations towards Convention on the Regulation of Antarctic Mineral Resource Activities. |
