Record #194454:

Alaska native subsistence: a matter of cultural survival / Thomas F. Thornton.

Title: Alaska native subsistence: a matter of cultural survival / Thomas F. Thornton.
Author(s): Thornton, Thomas F.
Date: 1998.
Publisher: Cambridge, MA: Cultural Survival
Abstract: Discusses necessity of legal protection from both federal and state law if Alaskan natives are to maintain traditional subsistence economy and way of life, which they consider essential to their future. Despite Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) of 1971 and draft of Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA) in 1980, subsistence policy remains politically very uneasy. Includes chronology of subsistence legislation (1971-1998).
