Tracing warm lines: northern Canadian exploration, knowledge, and memory, 1905-1965 / Christina Maria Adcock.

Title: Tracing warm lines: northern Canadian exploration, knowledge, and memory, 1905-1965 / Christina Maria Adcock.
Author(s): Adcock, Christina Maria.
Date: 2010.
Abstract: Discusses early 20th century culture of northern Canadian exploration through selective examination of lives and written works of four contemporary explorers: George Douglas (1875-1963), Guy Blanchet (1884-1966), Vilhjalmur Stefansson (1879-1962), Richard Finnie (1906-1987). Also draws on recent studies that understand activity of exploration as assemblage of cultural practices related to production and consumption of travel. Asserts importance of 20th century exploration, and of exploration generally, in creating modern identities, in production and circulating knowledge about Canadian North, and in creating representations of region for private and public consumption.
