Objective conjugations in Eskaleut and Uralic: evidence from Inuit and Mansi / Marc-Antoine Mahieu.
Title: | Objective conjugations in Eskaleut and Uralic: evidence from Inuit and Mansi / Marc-Antoine Mahieu. |
Author(s): | Mahieu, Marc-Antoine. |
Date: | 2009. |
Publisher: | Amsterdam: John Benjamins |
In: | Variations on polysynthesis : the Eskaleut languages. (2009.), |
Abstract: | Demonstrates that Uralic objective conjugation must have resembled, and still resembles today, Eskaleut transitive conjugation more than is currently conceded, at least in structural terms. Notes that: Mansi and Inuit objective conjugations strongly resemble each other; in both cases, systems are founded on forms which index third-person object; and, in both cases, objective forms were constituted by adding to verb stem i) passive or potentially passive verbonominal affix, ii) number marker denoting patient argument, and iii) possessive suffix denoting agent argument. |
Notes: | In: Variations on polysynthesis : the Eskaleut languages / Marc-Antoine Mahieu, Nicole Tersis, eds. |
