In: Meddelelser om Grønland. Man and Society. (2011.), Vol. 38 (2011)
Abstract: Presents comprehensive account of cultural history of Cape Farewell area in 19th century. Dominating factor was immigration of people to area from south-east Greenland. No written sources were produced by immigrants, so descriptions are based on material from Danish colonial authorities and German Moravian mission. Although reflecting European view and conception of world, sources present clear picture of east Greenlandic immigration, and of society which arose in wake of immigration, not least of impending struggle for souls of unbaptised east Greenlanders and also for their contribution to colonial trade in 19th century.
