Abstract: Gives overview of multi-disciplinary research project in Eveno-Bytantay Ulus of Sakha Republic whose main purpose was to investigate possible socio-economic risks involved in preservation of endangered Yakutian cattle Bos Taurus in three villages. Discusses symbiotic relationship of humans and cattle in these villages with reference to general perceptions of animals and animal-human relationships.
