Abstract: Documents evolution and key outcomes of IPY 2007-08 collaborative project "Sea Ice Knowledge and Use : Assessing Arctic Environmental and Social Change" (SIKU), aiming to explore indigenous people's knowledge and use of sea ice. Project involved scholars and indigenous experts from five nations and more than 30 communities around Arctic, from Greenland to Siberia. Comprises introduction and 19 contributions in four parts: recording the knowledge - Inuit observations of ice, climate and change; using the ice - indigenous knowledge and modern technologies; learning, knowing and preserving the knowledge; SIKU and siku - opening new perspectives. Appendices include list of 50 Nunavimmiut ice terms and English explanations.
