Abstract: | Examines relationship between resource development and impacts on aboriginal communities and culture in Canadian North from 1970s to present. Identifies two phases: community impact phase (1970 to mid-1990s), guided largely by cultural politics of assimilation, sociology of disturbance and anthropology of acculturation; and community continuity phase (mid-1990s to present) underpinned by political empowerment, participatory social impact assessment, and influence of cultural ecology. |
