Record #193145:

comparison of energy balance and degree-day models of summer ablation on the Langjökull ice cap, SW-Iceland / Sverrir Gudmundsson, and 3 others.

Title: comparison of energy balance and degree-day models of summer ablation on the Langjökull ice cap, SW-Iceland / Sverrir Gudmundsson, and 3 others.
Author(s): Gudmundsson, Sverrir.
Date: 2009.
In: Jökull. (2009.), Vol. 59 (2009)
Abstract: Presents physical and empirical degree-day models simulating melting of Langjökull during ablation seasons 2001-2005. Models were derived and evaluated using micro-meteorological observations on Hagafellsjökull, an outlet glacier of Langjökull, and tested with mass balance observations. Examines whether temperature records within glacier boundary layer or at ice-free areas away from glacier better signify changes in glacial melting. Tests performance of physical degree-day melt models and their applicability for predicting changes in melt rates in response to changes in regional temperatures. Also tests degree-day models against mass balance observations at sites not used for model calibration.
