Record #193138:

Testing lake sediment and dendrogeomorphic proxies for Little Ice Age environmental change in the upper Fraser River area, British Columbia, Canada / Randy W. Dirszowsky.

Title: Testing lake sediment and dendrogeomorphic proxies for Little Ice Age environmental change in the upper Fraser River area, British Columbia, Canada / Randy W. Dirszowsky.
Author(s): Dirszowsky, Randy W.
Date: 2010.
In: Geografiska Annaler. Series A. Physical Geography. (2010.), Vol. 92(3) (2010)
Abstract: Develops multi-proxy record of glacial activity in Moose Lake catchment for last millennium using terrestrial geomorphic evidence and lake sediments. Uses results to clarify mechanisms of sediment production and delivery characteristics in alpine geomorphic systems. Also tests alternate means of interpreting lacustrine clastic varve sequences based on fingerprinting. Describes glacial landforms and dendrochronological assessment of forefield surfaces in catchment headwaters (Reef Icefield) to identify periods of moraine construction. Describes lake sediments and identifies increases in varve thickness with documented glacier advances in 12th-14th, 18th and 19th centuries. Compares record of glacial activity from varve thickness with that indicated by variations in Ca and related elements derived from glaciated carbonate terrain.
