Record #193127:

Source, timing, frequency and flux of ice-rafted detritus to the Northeast Atlantic margin, 30-12 ka: testing the Heinrich precursor hypothesis / Anna I. Haapaniemi, and 11 others.

Title: Source, timing, frequency and flux of ice-rafted detritus to the Northeast Atlantic margin, 30-12 ka: testing the Heinrich precursor hypothesis / Anna I. Haapaniemi, and 11 others.
Author(s): Haapaniemi, Anna I.
Date: 2010.
In: Boreas. (2010.), Vol. 39(3) (2010)
Abstract: Re-analyzes core OMEX-2K from Goban Spur to examine concept of "precursor events", involving fluxes of ice-rafted detritus (IRD) from European ice sheets some 1,000-1,500 years before IRD fluxes from Laurentide Ice Sheet (LIS) occurred during Heinrich events. Examines whether British-Irish Ice Sheet (BIIS) IRD fluxes occurred only as precursors before Heinrich layers. From IRD characterisation and planktonic foraminiferal δ¹⁸O measurements constrained by new age model generates continuous records of IRD sources, timing, frequency and flux, and of local contemporary hydrographic conditions. Finds BIIS IRD precursors part of millennial-scale cyclic activity in which BIIS destabilisation resulted from eustatic jumps generated by LIS discharge during Heinrich events.
