Abstract: Presents results from new 30-m borehole from Witch Ground basin, aiming to reconstruct ice-sheet dynamics and improve spatial and temporal constraints on Late Weichselian British and Fennoscandian ice sheets. Identifies seven units characterising sequence of compacted and distorted glaciomarine diamictons, overlain by interbedded glaciomarine diamictons and soft, bedded-to-homogeneous marine muds. Correlates borehole and seismic observations to identify palaeoregimes of advance and ice-sheet overriding (with deformed subglacial sediments and buried streamlined features indicating SE-NW-flowing ice stream), deglaciation (beginning no later than 6.2 ¹⁴C ka BP), and postglacial glaciomarine-to-marine sedimentation. Following readvance, extensive iceberg ploughing dated 13.9-12 ¹⁴C ka BP may reflect oscillating ice-sheet margins during final decay.
