Record #193114:

Schnee, Gletscher und Permafrost 2008/2009 / F. Paul, and 5 others.

Title: Schnee, Gletscher und Permafrost 2008/2009 / F. Paul, and 5 others.
Translated title: Snow, glacier and permafrost 2008/2009.
Author(s): Paul, F.
Date: 2010.
Language: German.
In: Alpen : Zeitschrift des Schweizer Alpen-Clubs. (2010.), Vol. 8 (2010)
Abstract: Covers cryosphere of Swiss Alps for hydrological year 2008/09, placing summer temperature and annual precipitation in 150-year context. Northern glaciers generally experienced significant mass losses similar to recent years, whereas some southern glaciers gained mass. Snow cover thickness and duration were above average. Permafrost warmed slightly, principally because of snowfall and hot summer 2009. Of 92 observed glacier fronts, 84 retreated (Glacier du Trient by 151 m), two advanced slightly and six were stationary. Ried and Rossboden glaciers split into two in narrow steep zones. Reports permafrost temperatures at ~10 m depth from 10 sites, and active layer thickness records from five.
