Abstract: | Describes mountain taiga of Sweden, transitional zone (ecotone) between more productive lowland forests in east and treeless alpine tundra of high mountains in west. Notes that humans have been present in highlands of northern Sweden since deglaciation, and considers use of natural montane forest ecosystems to facilitate reindeer hunting or to improve reindeer grazing grounds. |
