Abstract: Overview of circumstances under which Northern Alaskan Eskimos choose among competing loyalties of kin, community and allies in resolving conflict. Ability of Eskimo law strictly to regulate traditional systems in order to maintain group interconnectedness is demonstrated in context of eleven case studies. Eskimo law is shown to be adaptable, dynamic and flexible.
