Record #192600:

Convective to gyre-scale dynamics: seaglider campaigns in the Labrador Sea 2003-2005 / Charles C. Eriksen, Peter Rhines.

Title: Convective to gyre-scale dynamics: seaglider campaigns in the Labrador Sea 2003-2005 / Charles C. Eriksen, Peter Rhines.
Author(s): Eriksen, Charles C.
Rhines, Peter.
Date: 2008.
Publisher: Dordrecht: Springer
In: Arctic-subarctic ocean fluxes : defining the role of the northern seas in climate. (2008.),
Abstract: Demonstrates that seagliders are effective and low-cost means of surveying internal structure of upper ocean in severe conditions. Describes ASOF Labrador Sea missions which were first opportunity to test this technology in environment where ability to respond to vehicle malfunctions was severely limited by remoteness and severe weather and sea conditions. Despite difficulties and hardware losses, data collection could not have been obtained by traditional shipboard means without extraordinary expense.
