Record #192101:
Effects of hookworms (Uncinaria sp.) on the early growth and survival of New Zealand sea lion (Phocarctos hookeri) pups / B.L. Chilvers, and 4 others.
Title: | Effects of hookworms (Uncinaria sp.) on the early growth and survival of New Zealand sea lion (Phocarctos hookeri) pups / B.L. Chilvers, and 4 others. |
Author(s): | Chilvers, B. L. |
Date: | 2009. |
In: | Polar Biology. (2009.), Vol. 32(2) (2009) |
Abstract: | Investigates effects of hookworms on growth and mortality of sea lion pups from birth to 3 months at sub-Antarctic Auckland Islands during 2003-2004 breeding seasons. Comparison of change in body mass and mortality of ivermectin treated and untreated pups indicated that treated animals had higher growth rates, but that hookworm infection had no significant effect on mortality rate except when overall mortality was high during epidemics caused by other pathogens. |
