| Abstract: | Reports observations of oceanic currents, hydrography, and microstructure made in southern Yermak Plateau in summer 2007. Study site was in marginal ice zone at Arctic Front north-west of Svalbard, where West Spitsbergen Current carries warm Atlantic water into Arctic Ocean. Finds that diapycnal mixing at study site is less energetic than that in northern Yermak Plateau. Also finds, on southern Yermak Plateau, significant differences between stations on either side of Arctic Front, where dissipation rate and eddy diffusivity below pycnocline increase from noise level (on cold side) by one order of magnitude (on warm side). |
