Cross-scale adaptation challenges in the coastal fisheries: findings from Lebesby, northern Norway / Jennifer J. West, Grete K. Hovelsrud.

Title: Cross-scale adaptation challenges in the coastal fisheries: findings from Lebesby, northern Norway / Jennifer J. West, Grete K. Hovelsrud.
Author(s): West, Jennifer J.

Date: 2010.
In: Arctic. (2010.), Vol. 63(3) (2010)
Abstract: Examines cross-scale adaptation challenges in coastal fisheries in Lebesby municipality, Finnmark, on basis of fieldwork conducted there. Although fishery actors are aware of, experience and describe numerous connections between climate variability and coastal fishing activities, they do not characterise livelihoods as being particularly vulnerable to climate change. However, they identify range of social factors that shape flexibility of activities and livelihoods to deal with changing environmental conditions. These factors, and actors' perceptions of their own resilience, constitute important aspects of adaptive capacity and may influence local responses to climate variability and change.
