Abstract: Reports partnership between Agnico-Eagle mines and Inuit of Baker Lake, Nunavut, in development of Meadowbank gold deposit, and describes scale of mining operation. Meadowbank is first gold mine in Nunavut, and is first to be developed on Inuit land. Environmental aspects of mine have been carefully designed to minimise toxic discharges and to reduce need for fresh water in mining processes.
