Abstract: Reports discovery of sunken British ship Investigator, abandoned by its crew in Mercy Bay on northern coast of Banks Island in 1853. Notes that Investigator was strongly entrenched in oral history of Inuvialuit; also that much material was taken from Investigator and has been found in hunting camps and other sites elsewhere on Banks Island.
